Material Safety and Compatibility
Materials We Do Not Laser Cut
CO₂ laser cutting is intended for compatible organic, acrylic, polymer, paper, textile, and wood-based materials. Some materials are unsafe or cannot be cut effectively.
Metal
We do not laser cut steel, aluminum, brass, copper,
or other metal sheets with our CO₂ laser systems.
PVC and Vinyl
PVC and chlorine-containing materials are not accepted
because they may produce hazardous and corrosive fumes.
Unknown Plastics
Plastics without reliable composition or manufacturer
documentation cannot be accepted for laser processing.
Glass and Ceramic
Glass, ceramic, stone, and tile cannot be cut
into shapes using our CO₂ laser equipment.
Fiberglass
Fiberglass and materials containing glass fibres
are not accepted for laser cutting.
Hazardous Materials
Materials producing toxic, corrosive, highly flammable,
or unidentified emissions are not processed.

Helpful Information
Laser Cutting FAQs
What materials can you laser cut?
We cut acrylic, plywood, MDF, wood veneer, paper, cardboard, leather, felt, selected fabric, rubber,
engraving plastic, and other approved laser-compatible non-metal materials.
Can you laser cut metal?
No. Our CO₂ laser equipment does not cut steel, aluminum, brass, copper, or other sheet metals.
Acrylic, plywood, MDF, or engraving plastic may provide a suitable alternative for some applications.
Can you cut PVC or vinyl?
No. PVC, vinyl, and other chlorine-containing materials are not accepted because laser processing
can release hazardous and corrosive fumes.
What file formats do you accept?
Vector files such as AI, SVG, EPS, DXF, and vector PDF are preferred. All cut lines must be clearly defined
and supplied at the correct scale.
Can you prepare or fix my cutting file?
Yes. We can review artwork, convert suitable files, clean up vectors, correct cut paths, and prepare
production-ready layouts. File-preparation fees may apply.
Can you cut material that I provide?
Customer-supplied material may be accepted after compatibility review. We require the exact material
name, composition, manufacturer information, thickness, and safety documentation when applicable.
How thick can you laser cut?
Maximum thickness depends on the exact material, density, quality, colour, required edge finish,
geometry, and production requirements. Send the material specifications for review.
Can you cut only one prototype?
Yes. We support one prototype, small batches, test parts, and larger repeatable production runs.
Can you produce repeated parts accurately?
Yes. Approved files and production settings can be reused for repeat orders. Some dimensional variation
may occur because of material behaviour and laser kerf.
What is laser kerf?
Kerf is the narrow amount of material removed by the laser beam. It can affect tight-fitting parts,
slots, tabs, and assemblies and should be considered during file preparation.
Do acrylic edges require polishing?
Laser-cut cast acrylic commonly receives a smooth, polished-looking edge. Final appearance depends on
acrylic type, thickness, colour, and cutting settings.
Will wood edges be dark after cutting?
Laser-cut wood and MDF normally show darker cut edges. The amount of darkening depends on material type,
thickness, glue content, moisture, and production settings.
How quickly can you complete a laser cutting order?
Timing depends on file readiness, material availability, quantity, complexity, machine time, and current workload.
Smaller projects may be completed faster than large runs.
What information do you need for a quote?
Send the vector file, exact dimensions, material, material thickness, quantity, required deadline,
finishing requirements, and available budget range.
Where are you located?
Our production facility is located in Kanata, Ottawa. Pickup is available by arrangement, and delivery
or shipping may also be available.
